Game Chica is a conference designed to empower young Latina girls by introducing them to game design and technology. The event provides hands-on workshops, mentorship opportunities, and a platform for participants to explore creative careers in gaming and STEM.
Create a vibrant, playful aesthetic that resonates with young audiences while maintaining a professional appeal for sponsors and partners. The design needed to communicate empowerment, creativity, and inclusivity in gaming.
Having attended the Game Chica Conference firsthand during my internship with Latinitas, I was inspired to explore how I would approach the event's branding if given the opportunity. My concept is based on real observations of the event's energy, audience engagement, and overall mission.
For the Game Chica branding concept, I wanted to incorporate a pixel-art aesthetic to reflect the nostalgia and creativity of gaming while keeping the design fresh and modern. My goal was to create a logo that feels fun, empowering, and visually striking—something that immediately connects with young gamers and aspiring game designers.
Pixel Inspiration: The blocky, pixelated typography is inspired by retro 8-bit and 16-bit video game graphics, paying homage to gaming's roots while embracing a contemporary edge. The pixel details and controller icon embedded within the typography help reinforce the gaming theme.
Color Exploration: I experimented with bold, bright colors to make the branding feel energetic and inviting. The vibrant pink, purple, and blue gradients give the design a futuristic and digital feel, reflecting the innovation and creativity that Game Chica promotes.
In addition to the logo designs, I created a set of custom illustrations that enhance the conference branding. These illustrations feature pixel hearts and stars.
Developing a branding concept for the Game Chica Conference was an exciting challenge that pushed me to think deeply about how design can shape experiences and inspire communities. Through this process, I gained valuable insights into branding, audience engagement, and creative problem-solving.
Beyond aesthetics, I wanted this branding concept to embody the mission of Game Chica—inspiring young creatives to see themselves in the gaming industry. This project reminded me that design is more than just visuals; it's about creating a feeling and a story that resonates.
This project gave me the opportunity to apply my visual design skills to a cause I truly care about. It challenged me to think strategically about branding while allowing me to explore my creative instincts. If given the chance to expand this concept further, I would love to develop additional assets such as event signage, merchandise, and interactive digital elements to enhance the Game Chica experience.
